About Greenwood Cemetery

Established in 1830, Josiah Holmes, founder of the Methodist Church, donated the land for a cemetery.  The oldest grave is Catherine Ansley who died in 1837.

Pictured is Gideon Barnes, the founder of Barnesville.  It was his gravesite that was restored and beautified by the Azalea Garden Club and led to the founding of the Greenwood Cemetery Preservation Association.
